Obituary of Ian David McLaren

Ian David McLaren was born in Windsor, Ontario on March 31, 1962. A quick-witted dad, brother & favourite uncle, he suddenly passed away at home in Ottawa, Ontario, on December 6, 2024. Ian is now reunited with his beloved wife Debbie, whom he missed dearly since her untimely passing in September 2017.

Ian was a gifted child and attended McGregor Easson in Ottawa, as well as Knoxdale and Greenbank Elementary Schools, and Sir Robert Borden High School in Nepean. He spent his career primarily in sales, in the Food Services industry in the Ottawa area, and could always be counted on to guide the best available deals for value and quality.

Ian was fiercely independent and direct, but beneath this thin veneer was a compassionate and wise soul. He had an eye for value and was an understated, eclectic collector.

Ian was loyal to his friends and family. He was proud of and loved his daughters above all else. He will be missed by his 4 surviving nieces and 2 nephews, who would often receive unsolicited, if timely, guidance to avoid pitfalls in life, or a healthy dose of silliness when required.

He persevered and overcame many challenges with his health, and made the most of life pursuing his passions, knowing he was on borrowed time.

Predeceased by his parents Marilyn and A Grant McLaren, his wife Debbie Nelson, and his nieces Amy Fodey and Laura Fodey, Ian leaves daughters Melissa McLaren & Kristin McLaren (Barry), sister Faith Fodey (Greg), brother Alan (Elzbieta) and Doug (Ana), nieces Emily McLaren (Paul), Ashley McLaren, Samantha McLaren, and nephews Jeffrey Fodey (Adila) and James McLaren.

Ian has been cremated in accordance with his wishes and will be interred with his wife Debbie at Pinecrest Cemetery. A Celebration of Life reception will take place at the Pinecrest Reception Centre, 2500 Baseline Rd. Ottawa on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 12 to 2pm.
